Banff and Buchan MSP Stewart Stevenson has signed a Parliamentary Motion backing and commending the Royal College of Nursing’s “Wipe it Out” campaign on MRSA.
Commenting on the Motion, Mr Stevenson said:
“The campaign is one of extreme importance as it highlights the need for an array of practical improvements to help reduce rates of healthcare-associated infections. It also states what it believes are the minimum standards for infection prevention and control.
“The campaign details the importance of ensuring the supply of satisfactory clean uniforms for staff, the universal provision of staff changing and laundry facilities and the availability of 24-hour cleaning teams in all acute hospitals.
“I believe that this campaign should be supported in order to help make further progress in dealing with MRSA and other healthcare-associated infections. Furthermore, recognition must be given to the huge amount of work already being carried out across Scotland by the whole healthcare team and that staff need the support of politicians and public to preserve and add to this vital work.”
