MP & MSP Comment on Young’s Seafood

Following the announcement today by Young’s Seafood that they intend to start formal consultation with staff and their representatives at the Young’s Fraserburgh and Spey Valley sites to explore proposals and possible options for the facilities; Stewart Stevenson, MSP for Banffshire & Buchan Coast, and Eilidh Whiteford, MP for Banff & Buchan, issued the following statement:

Stewart Stevenson, MSP for Banffshire & Buchan Coast, said:

“We have been in regular contact with the Chief Executive of Young’s Seafood over the last week, who has stressed to us that no firm decision has yet been made. Nevertheless, we appreciate that this will be a tremendously worrying and uncertain time for the staff at Young’s in Fraserburgh. We are in close contact with Scottish Government Ministers and will be speaking with them to ascertain what support can be leveraged at this stage.”

Eilidh Whiteford, MP for Banff & Buchan, added:

“Fraserburgh is a good place to do business and has a workforce with some very valuable skills and expertise. We stand ready to assist our constituents and will do all in our power to safeguard jobs in the town.”
