The North East Arts Touring Limited has been given £61,000 after applying to Young Start for funding.
The group will work with young people aged between 13-24 to promote a professional theatre and dance performance within their local community.
It also aims to teach transferable skills in events and art management.
During the two-year project, 360 young people will take part, supported by 324 volunteers.
Commenting, Stewart Stevenson MSP, said:
“This funding will help support a new, two-year project aimed at showing young people the benefits of theatre.
“I am pleased the group has been successful in its funding and I look forward to seeing how the project develops over the next two years.
“Funding like this can be a lifeline for community groups and I would urge others to apply for the funding available.”
