Banffshire & Buchan Coast MSP Stewart Stevenson has welcomed the announcement that projects in Banff and Peterhead are set to receive funding under the Big Lottery Fund’s 2014 Communities programme.
Peterhead Academy will receive £1,842 to establish a Community Sports Leaders Award to fund training for people in the area to help organise basketball activities in the local community.
Meanwhile Teen Xtreme Team in Banff will receive £1,970 to run a summer programme of outdoor sports, including surfing, rock climbing and kayaking for young people in the area.
Commenting, Mr Stevenson said:
“I am delighted that these two projects in Banffshire & Buchan Coast will benefit from lottery funding. The awards are being made as part of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games legacy funding which will encourage more people to take up physical activity and ensure that the Commonwealth Games coming to Scotland benefits people across the country and not just in Glasgow.
“This funding will provide fantastic new opportunities for people in Banff and Peterhead and I know that everyone involved in successfully securing this funding will be delighted by their success.“
