The Fraserburgh Lifeboat capsized on 21 January 1970 with the loss of five crew members. A commemorative service was held on Sunday in Fraserburgh’s Old Parish Church.
Commenting, Mr Stevenson said:
“We owe a huge debt to the current and former personnel who give of their time so freely to serve the RNLI in a variety of capacities.
“In particular, it is right and proper that we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in their attempts to assist others in distress.
“Sunday’s commemoration was a fitting and dignified tribute and one at which it was humbling to be present.”
