Figures show that the number of Home Fire Safety Visits in Scotland rose from 56,251 in 2012-13 to 70,686 in 2013/14 – including a rise from 947 to 4369 in Grampian.
Mr Stevenson said:
“The men and women working in Scotland’s fire service do excellent work in our communities to promote safety and prevent fires – and these figures are a welcome example of their efforts paying off.
“Over the year we saw the number of Home Fire Safety Visits in Scotland rise by almost 15,000 – including an increase of 3422 in Grampian.
“One death from fire is one too many so the fact that more people in our community are benefiting from home fire safety visits is welcome news - and I would encourage everyone in Banffshire and Buchan Coast to arrange their free Home Fire Safety Visit today.”
